A ground model of 'The Home of Golf'

 Aerial Imaging Ltd of Settle, Yorkshire, won a prestigious contract to provide ortho rectified aerial imagery, and a gridded DTM of the Old, New and Jubilee courses at St Andrews. That probably means more if you’re a golfing aficionado, anyway, even with the limited daylight hours and as you may recall, the atrocious weather conditions last December, the data capture for this project was completed in just one day. Wind speed isn’t a factor with Aerial Imaging Ltd’s Trimble UX5 aerial imaging rover. With a recommended limit of 65km/h there is seldom times when the ability to capture precise imagery is compromised. This is one of the reasons Aerial imaging Ltd chose the UX5 over some of the competitors.

 The area covered was approximately 205Ha, which was completed in three, approximately 30 minute, flights. Ground truthing was achieved using a Trimble R10 rover utilising a correction stream from VRSNow.

The brief for this project was a 50cm gridded DTM ( bare earth ) and 150mm GSD orthophoto. Although the gridded DTM was delivered in a variety of different GSDs as the client was unsure of his exact requirement until the data was delivered. With the photogrammetric module in TBC this wasn’t an issue as once the relative and absolute orientation had been performed, further export of any desired resolution was a one click operation.
